Good to know about Nice

  • Most kitchens close around 10 pm, but in the pedestrian zone on Rue Massena, several family-run spots serve until 11 pm in low season and 1 am in high season, and specific bistros in Vieux Nice like Le Bar des Oiseaux also serve late. Source
  • It's safe to drink, but it's very hard and chlorinated, so many locals use a filter or buy bottled water for a better taste. Source
  • The tram is very convenient, but airport ticket machines only sell a €10 round-trip ticket; instead, buy a €2 rechargeable card plus €1.70 per trip at the first tram stop outside the airport (Grand Arenas) or via the Lignes d'Azur Ticket app for Android. Source
  • Always validate your reusable 'La Carte' or phone ticket every time you board a tram or bus, even for transfers, to avoid fines. Source
  • All Nice beaches are completely non-smoking since summer 2024, so you cannot smoke on any of them. Source
  • The Lou Queernaval, France's first gay carnival, is a vibrant and free highlight during the larger Nice Carnival, offering a flamboyant night parade. Source
  • Go before 11am for the Père Noël appearances until December 24th, and don't miss the life-sized Nativity scene at Place Rossetti in Old Town. Source
  • While many locals avoid the main Carnival parades, the free and flamboyant Lou Queernaval night offers a more local and lively experience. Source
