All Saints' Day (Wszystkich Świętych) - Public Holiday
A national public holiday in Poland. Most schools, banks, government offices, and many private businesses are closed. There is a trade prohibition, but some smaller shops and restaurants might operate. Families traditionally visit cemeteries to lay flowers (chrysanthemums) and light candles (znicze) on the graves of their deceased loved ones. Kraków's Rakowicki Cemetery is a popular destination for these visits. Public transport operates on a modified schedule with additional 'cemetery lines'. Special masses and prayers for the dead are held in churches and cemeteries.
Cemetery Visits on All Saints' Day
A significant tradition where millions of Poles visit cemeteries to light candles and place flowers on graves. Rakowicki Cemetery is a prominent location for this observance in Kraków. Photography is common, but the atmosphere remains reverent.
Changes in Public Transport for All Saints' Day
Kraków introduces changes in public transport organization and road traffic around cemeteries. Special tram and bus lines (numbered starting with 8) will be launched, and regular lines may have modified schedules. Visitors are encouraged to use public transport.
